Dr. P. was a physician from Moscow, respected both for his medical knowledge and for his exceptional kindness and moral character. The person who later evoked him had never met him personally and knew him only by reputation. Shortly after his death, the doctor communicated through a medium in the Russian language.

Dr. P.Yes.
Dr. P.On the day of my death, I remained near you.
Dr. P.I repeatedly tried to influence you to write, but you resisted my attempts.
Dr. P.I had heard what you said about me.
Dr. P.Through that, I became acquainted with you.
Dr. P.And it gave me the desire to speak with you and be useful to you.
MediumWhy did someone as good as you have to suffer so much during life on Earth?
Dr. P.My suffering was a favor granted to me by God.
Dr. P.It allowed me to appreciate my deliverance more deeply.
Dr. P.And it helped me advance as much as possible while still on Earth.
MediumDid the thought of death frighten you?
Dr. P.No.
Dr. P.I had too much faith in God for that.
MediumWas the separation from the body painful?
Dr. P.No.
Dr. P.What people call “the last moment” is almost nothing.
Dr. P.I felt only a brief cracking sensation.
Dr. P.And then, very soon afterward, I joyfully found myself freed from my miserable body.
MediumWhat happened after that?
Dr. P.To my great joy, I saw many friends who had come to meet and welcome me.
Dr. P.Among them were many people whom I had once helped during life on Earth.
MediumWhere do you now live?
MediumIs it upon another planet?
Dr. P.Everything that is not a planet belongs to what you call space.
Dr. P.That is where I now exist.
Dr. P.But there are countless levels within this immensity, far beyond anything human beings can imagine.
Dr. P.There are endless steps upon the great ladder rising from Earth toward heaven.
Dr. P.In other words, from the degraded condition of incarnation upon a lower world like yours... toward the complete purification of the soul.
Dr. P.The place where I now dwell can only be reached after many trials.
Dr. P.In other words... after many incarnations.
MediumThen you must have lived many previous lives?
Dr. P.How could it be otherwise?
Dr. P.Nothing stands outside the unchanging order established by God.
Dr. P.Reward comes only after victory has been won through struggle.
Dr. P.So, when the reward is great, the struggle must also have been severe.
Dr. P.Human life is too short for the entire struggle to be completed in one existence.
Dr. P.It unfolds gradually through many stages.
Dr. P.And the intervals between those stages are successive incarnations.
Dr. P.Since I have already reached a relatively elevated level, it is certain that I attained it through many battles.
Dr. P.And with God’s help, I succeeded in gaining victory little by little.
MediumIn what does your happiness now consist?
Dr. P.That is very difficult to explain to you.
Dr. P.The happiness I experience is an inner feeling of peace and satisfaction.
Dr. P.Not pride in my own merits, because pride belongs to lower spirits.
Dr. P.Rather, it is a peaceful contentment united with love for God and gratitude for His infinite goodness.
Dr. P.It is the deep joy of feeling myself in harmony with what is good and right.
Dr. P.It is the happiness of saying to myself:
Dr. P.“Perhaps I helped some souls rise toward the Lord.”
Dr. P.It is the feeling of joining oneself to the current of Divine Order.
Dr. P.It is a conscious union of the mind with Divine Goodness.
Dr. P.We are also able to see spirits more advanced than ourselves.
Dr. P.We understand the missions they carry out.
Dr. P.And we know that we too will eventually reach the same height.
Dr. P.We glimpse regions so radiant with divine fire that we become dazzled even through the veil still covering them from us.
Dr. P.But what am I truly telling you?
Dr. P.Can you really understand my words?
Dr. P.Do you imagine that this “fire” resembles your physical sun?
Dr. P.No... no.
Dr. P.It is something completely impossible for human beings to describe.
Dr. P.Human language can express only things already known through memory or intuition.
Dr. P.But these realities are entirely unknown to earthly experience.
Dr. P.So, no words exist capable of conveying them fully.
Dr. P.Yet remember this:
Dr. P.There is immense happiness simply in knowing that we may continue rising forever.

MediumIn what way can you do so?
Dr. P.I can support you during discouragement.
Dr. P.I can strengthen you in moments of weakness.
Dr. P.I can comfort you during grief.
Dr. P.If your faith ever weakens after some painful shock, call upon me.
Dr. P.Inspiration from higher spirits will allow me to place thoughts into your mind that will restore calmness and certainty.
Dr. P.If you feel yourself close to surrendering to tendencies you know are wrong, call upon me.
Dr. P.I will help you carry your cross, just as Jesus was helped in carrying His.
Dr. P.He carried it while proclaiming truth and charity with dignity.
Dr. P.If your troubles overwhelm you...
Dr. P.If despair seizes you...
Dr. P.Call upon me.
Dr. P.I will help draw you out of the abyss.
Dr. P.I will speak to your spirit and remind you of the duties laid upon you.
Dr. P.Not merely duties created by society...
Dr. P.But duties born from the attraction of divine love.
Dr. P.That love will rekindle spiritual life within you.
Dr. P.You certainly possess friends on Earth.
Dr. P.Perhaps they share your sorrows and help support you.
Dr. P.During suffering, you bring them your tears and grief.
Dr. P.And they respond with affection, advice, attention, and help.
Dr. P.Well then... do you not think a friend from the spirit world can also be precious?
Dr. P.Is it not comforting to say to yourself:
Dr. P.“When I die, my earthly friends will weep and pray for me...”
Dr. P.“But my spirit-friends will await me joyfully on the other side of life...”
Dr. P.“Smiling at our reunion...”
Dr. P.“And guiding me toward the place I have earned through my virtues.”
MediumHow could I possibly deserve the protection you kindly offer me?

Dr. P.From the very day of my death, I felt drawn toward you.
Dr. P.I saw that you were a sincere and enlightened Spiritist.
Dr. P.I also saw that you were a good medium.
Dr. P.Among those I left behind on Earth, you were the first person I clearly perceived.
Dr. P.So I immediately decided to come to you and help you advance.
Dr. P.Not only for your own sake...
Dr. P.But even more for the many people whom you will help lead toward truth.
Dr. P.You should recognize the greatness of God’s love in granting you the role of missionary.
Dr. P.Little by little, you are leading those around you toward faith.
Dr. P.Don't grow weary in this work.
Dr. P.In time, even the most stubborn people will join you.
Dr. P.Continue moving steadily forward.
Dr. P.Ignore the stones lying in your path.
Dr. P.And whenever you grow tired, use me as a staff to support your journey.

Dr. P.But your zeal in spreading truth...

Dr. P.Your constant defense of charity, kindness, and goodwill... even toward those who mistreat you...
Dr. P.And your resistance against the anger naturally within you...
Dr. P.All these things balance the faults from which you have not yet fully freed yourself.
Dr. P.Forgiving others is the first condition for obtaining forgiveness oneself.
Dr. P.God surrounds you with grace through the abilities He has given you.
Dr. P.It is now your responsibility to develop those abilities through effort and through sincere labor for the spiritual good of others.
Dr. P.I now leave you.

Dr. P.Try to live less and less for earthly things...
